About
Why meloframa?
I’m one of three people in the modern world who doesn’t touch-type and I’m always misspelling “melodrama” as “meloframa”. It makes me smile. (I also tend to misspell “heroes” as “herpes”. Heh.)
Who are you?
I’m Nicola. I’m 23 and I live in England. The Americanisms I am prone to spout can be put down to the year I spent living in California (and, also, the fact that I’m a raging Americaphile). I have a degree in English Lit. and American Studies, which apparently makes me qualified for absolutely nothing! It means I tend to use the word “homosocial” when talking about US TV shows, though. My ambitions are to publish a novel (more than one, actually) and move back to America.
I like my books zeitgeisty and preferably American.
I like many different kinds of music, but the more I think about it, the more connections I find between the music I listen to, so I am loath to label my taste as eclectic. I enjoy a distinctive singing voice, smart (and smartass) lyrics and a soaring string section. If I have a staple, it’s Crappy US AlternaRawk. (See: Goo Goo Dolls, Fall Out Boy.) I have an interest in emo subculture. Sometimes my interest is pure and true; sometimes it is wryly sociological.
I like TV that entertains. Sometimes that’s smart, razor-sharp shows like Mad Men. Sometimes it’s hilariously bad guilty pleasures like Gossip Girl. My all-time TV favourites are: Love My Way (s1); The West Wing (s2); Dawson’s Creek (s1); Firefly; Gilmore Girls (s1).
My heroes (not herpes) are: Douglas Coupland, Chris Corner, Francesca Lia Block, Brian Schechter, Jamie Oliver and Tori Amos.

A snuggly, wrapped-up-warm layout seemed in order for the winter. This layout features Ed Westwick (randomly British!) and Leighton Meester, whose on-screen relationship is currently the best thing about Gossip Girl. I design in Adobe Photoshop.
